NUTRITION
Good nutrition is vital to a child's overall development and well-being. At Crossroads Kids Connection, we offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins daily to promote this.
When meal planning, we like to introduce new and different foods and child favorites to provide children with a balance of variety and familiarity. Menus are adapted to include fresh; in-season produce when available. We are blessed with a local farm in Helenville where we get fresh-picked produce. Visit Jelli's Market online and in person! We also take an annual field trip there in June to pick strawberries for our center breakfast and snacks.
Our center participates in Wisconsin Harvest of the Month! Harvest of the Month is a statewide campaign that encourages students to eat more fruits and vegetables. Each month, our school features one Wisconsin-grown fruit or vegetable that is seasonally available. We encourage students to taste, explore, and learn about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables in the classroom and during meals. Watch the menu, newsletter and Facebook page for more information about the Harvest of the Month fruits and vegetables.
In January 2024, we added Build-Your-Own (BYO) meals to the menu! Children can assemble their meals to enhance mealtime with self-help and sensory and motor skills! Fostering independence and creativity, this culinary adventure happens several times a month. Paired with our weekly lesson plan themes, from healthy breakfast to creative snacks, we're making mealtime a flavorful and enriching experience!
Meal and snack times are planned throughout the day so no child will go more than 3 awake hours without food. You can review more information here.
